Yesterday Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, announced that further help would be coming to British businesses.
The PM was speaking at the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) in Birmingham when he addressed energy support for businesses. He said that government support will be targeted at those who are most in need.
The government have recognized that energy-intensive businesses have been through a really tough time over the past year. Many businesses have had to close due to rising energy bills or reduce operations. Although the PM did not announce what kind of support will be available, he did say details of the support would be published in due course.
Sunak added that going forward after support, given the finical circumstances of the country, it is responsible that this support is adjusted and targeted to those who need it most.
Support will be more targeted at those businesses that the most help. Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, has already stated that he will be revelling plans for ongoing support for businesses. The PM just reassured businesses that this support will aid them in the upcoming year.
Energy-intensive businesses include industries such as steel, paper mills, glass and ceramics. As well as businesses that use a lot of energy there will also be helpful for sectors that have become vulnerable due to high energy prices, such as the hospitality sector.
